The MPV has stopped selling, but it has not stopped driving. In Spain there are hundreds of thousands of Tourans, Sharans, Alhambras, Scénics, C4 Picassos, Zafiras, Versos and B-Classes doing exactly what they were bought for: school runs, family, long trips and a full boot. These are cars with plenty of mechanical life left and, almost always, the most outdated audio system in the household.
It is precisely the kind of car where a screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto changes daily life the most: navigation with live traffic for the summer holiday drive, music or audiobooks for those in the back, decent hands-free and a reversing camera in a long car with wide rear pillars. This guide brings together which solution matches each MPV and seven-seater, and what to keep in mind before buying.
Not sure whether there is a screen for your car? Check the compatibility table by make and model: the 521 models we cover, with their years and the type of solution each one needs.
Why does an MPV fall short as standard?
MPVs were mostly sold in entry and mid-level trims, because people bought them for space, not equipment. The typical result is a CD radio with a two-line display, Bluetooth for calls only (and sometimes not even that), DVD-based navigation with frozen maps and no camera input. In those that did have a screen, it is usually 5 or 6 inches and without CarPlay.
On top of that, the MPV has two problems of its own:
- Limited rear visibility. These cars are tall, long and have a third row: a reversing camera is not a luxury, it is real safety when parking with a loaded boot.
- Shared use. More than one person in the family drives it, so it helps that the phone pairs by itself and that everyone can find their music without fighting the menu.
The good part is that the radio aperture in these cars is generous — usually a true double DIN — and that allows 9 or even 10-inch screens with a model-specific fascia, without touching the dashboard.

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppPlenty of large families in Spain go for a combi: more seats and more boot for the same money. These have their own screens and share almost everything with the cargo version:
- Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Rifter
- Nissan NV200 and Evalia (2009-2021)
- Citroën Nemo, Fiat Fiorino/Qubo and Peugeot Bipper (2008-2017)
- Mercedes Viano and Vito W639 (2003-2014)

What is the installation like?
- Remove the console trim. In MPVs it is usually a large clip-in panel that includes the air vents; take it out with plastic wedges, never with a screwdriver. Step by step in how to remove the factory radio without breaking anything.
- Release the original radio and unplug the quadlock, speakers and aerial. In those with factory navigation or an amplifier there is also a fibre optic connector or an extra lead.
- Connect the model-specific harness supplied with the screen: connector to connector, with no cutting or splicing.
- Plug in the CAN Bus box so the steering wheel controls, the warnings and, in many models, the parking sensors keep working. If you are not sure whether your car needs it, it is explained in what the CAN Bus is.
- Run the camera cable to the tailgate if you are fitting one. It is the step that takes longest in a long car, and the one you appreciate most afterwards.
- Test everything before closing up: all four speakers, steering wheel controls, Bluetooth, reverse gear and radio stations.
In an MPV the job usually takes around an hour, a bit more if a camera is added. If the radio picks up no stations when you finish, the amplified aerial adapter is almost always missing: see the Android radio gets no stations. And if your car had a factory amplifier and there is no sound at all, the fibre optic amplifier guide explains it.

Message us on WhatsApp with your make, model and year and we will tell you exactly which screen fits your car. We reply in minutes.
Talk to an expert on WhatsAppDo 10-inch screens fit in an MPV?
In many, yes, because the console is wide and upright. But what decides is the specific fascia for your model: if yours is a 9-inch fascia, forcing a 10-inch screen covers vents or climate controls. The reasoning is in which screen size to choose.
Can I add two rear screens for the kids?
The head unit has a video output, so it can feed a player or headrest screens. The normal and cheaper approach, though, is for everyone to bring their own tablet: the front screen stays for navigation and music.
My MPV has factory navigation with a screen in the middle of the dashboard. Do I lose it?
It depends on the model. If the original screen is separate and mounted high up, in some cars it is kept and in others it goes inactive. In those cases an interface that keeps the original system and only adds CarPlay may be more interesting; we say so in each model's article.
Do the steering wheel controls and trip computer still work?
Yes. The controls are handled by the CAN Bus box, and in most models the instrument cluster warnings are kept too. The trip computer in the cluster is not touched.
And if my model is not on the list?
Write to us with the exact make, model and year. The catalogue covers quite a few more versions than fit here, and if your car needs an interface instead of a screen we will tell you before you buy.

Each screen arrives with the fascia and harness for your model, CarPlay and Android Auto (wired and wireless), GPS with maps of Spain and Europe, Play Store and a rear camera input. You can start with the head unit for Volkswagen Touran 1T3 or look for your car in the full catalogue. Tell us the make, model and year and we will confirm what fits your MPV.
