What is the installation like?

A plug & play installation of 30 to 60 minutes, with no wires cut:

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Pull the original radio out with the Volkswagen extraction keys (the U-shaped rods that slot into the four sides).
3. Disconnect the quadlock, the aerial and, if fitted, the RNS GPS connector.
4. Plug in the new screen's specific VAG harness. It carries the CAN-Bus box, which is what keeps the steering wheel controls, the parking sensors and the instrument cluster information working.
5. Run the reversing camera cable to the number plate if you're fitting it.
6. Place the screen in its fascia and seat it in the console aperture.
7. Reconnect the battery, start the car and pair your phone over Bluetooth the first time. After that, CarPlay connects on its own.

I have the RNS 510 — do I lose the original navigation?
You lose that unit, yes, but you gain the new screen's built-in GPS with offline maps of Spain and Europe, plus Google Maps and Waze via CarPlay. In practice navigation improves and stops costing you money with every update.

Do the steering wheel controls and parking sensors still work?
Yes. The harness's CAN-Bus keeps both, along with the warnings shown in the instrument cluster.

Does it affect the folding roof or its electronics?
Not at all. The Eos roof mechanism is a circuit independent of the radio: the installation doesn't touch it.

Does it sound good with the roof down?
Much better than before. The built-in DSP lets you lift treble and mids in a profile designed for roof-down driving, and save another one for roof-up.
