What is the installation like?

It is a plug & play fit: no original wiring is cut or spliced, so the installation is reversible and does not compromise the vehicle electronics.

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before touching anything.
2. Release the console trim with plastic tools, starting at the corners so you do not mark the dashboard.
3. Undo the screws of the original radio and pull it out of its opening.
4. Unplug the ISO connector and the aerial from the factory unit.
5. Connect the supplied model-specific harness to the new screen and plug it into the Kangoo connector. The CAN-Bus module is the key part: it translates the car's signals so the steering wheel controls and dashboard warnings keep working.
6. If you fit the reversing camera, run the video cable along the side of the cabin to the rear doors and connect it to the reverse light.
7. Slot the screen into its fascia, screw it in, reconnect the battery and pair your phone over Bluetooth and WiFi on the first start.

At a car audio shop it takes 30-60 minutes. With patience and the right tools it is a manageable home job.

The dealer has no update that adds CarPlay to a Kangoo that did not come with it: the only official alternative would be fitting the higher multimedia system, paying for the unit, the wiring and the labour, where that is even possible.
