Which Kia models have CarPlay as standard?

• Early small touchscreens (some mid-trim Sportage, Ceed and Rio): built-in navigation or a reversing camera, but no CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Recent UVO / Kia Connect systems: CarPlay is there, usually wired, and only if the car left the factory with that unit. It is not something you can download.

What is the installation like on a Kia?

It is a plug & play job: it uses the car's original connectors, no wires are cut and everything is reversible.

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait a few minutes.
2. Release the centre console trim with plastic pry tools. On Kia models it is usually clipped in, with two or four screws hidden behind it.
3. Pull the original radio out and unplug the rear connector and the aerial.
4. Connect the model-specific harness and the CAN Bus decoder: this is the part that keeps the steering wheel controls, the warnings and the parking sensors.
5. If your Kia has an original reversing camera or an amplified sound system, check first that the kit includes the matching adapter.
6. Place the microphone near the rear-view mirror and route the GPS aerial along the pillar.
7. Fit the screen into the frame, reconnect the battery and check sound, steering wheel controls, camera and CarPlay.

With a screwdriver, plastic tools and a little patience, most models take one to two hours.

How much does it cost to add CarPlay to a Kia?

The official route rarely exists. On Kia models without a touchscreen the dealer cannot add CarPlay because the hardware does not support it, and on those with a small screen the only alternative would be replacing the whole multimedia unit with a higher-spec one: an expensive part, hard to source for older models and often needing coding.
