The Jeep Renegade has become one of the most common compact SUVs on Spanish roads, and for good reason: it has real character, a comfortable high driving position and a size that fits any city car park. But there is one detail that disappoints many buyers on the used market: the 5-inch Uconnect screen is small, slow and, in most units, comes with neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto.
The good news is that the Renegade's console opening accepts a model-specific Android screen radio that multiplies the screen size and adds everything the original system lacks, while keeping a factory look.
Does the Jeep Renegade have CarPlay as standard?
It depends on the trim level and the build year, and for most units on Spanish roads the answer is no.
These are the systems the Renegade was fitted with:
- Uconnect 5": the most widespread version on entry-level and mid trims. Radio, Bluetooth and USB, without CarPlay or Android Auto.
- Uconnect 6.5" Nav: adds its own navigation, with maps that age badly and are expensive to update.
- Uconnect 7" and 8.4": only on the best-equipped versions of the later facelift. These do include CarPlay and Android Auto, but wired and on a screen that feels small today.
If your Renegade has the small screen with the black surround and physical buttons on each side, you have no phone mirroring. And even if you do have it, you are probably using it with a cable and on a much smaller display than any current car.

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppThe Android screen radio specific to the Renegade replaces the original Uconnect unit using a fascia designed for this model's console, so the assembly looks integrated with no gaps or generic parts on show.
Features included:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay: the iPhone connects automatically when you start the car, with no cable involved.
- Android Auto, also wireless, with Google Maps, Waze, Spotify and voice messaging.
- A much larger touchscreen than the 5" Uconnect, with high resolution and quick response.
- Navigation with live traffic and always up-to-date maps, with no update fees.
- Rear camera input with dynamic guide lines, and a front camera input in many configurations.
- Steering wheel controls kept working thanks to the included CAN Bus module.
- Bluetooth, WiFi, USB, 4G SIM slot on versions that include it, and an amplifier output.
- Split screen to see navigation and music at the same time.
For a car that gets used a lot on trips and weekend getaways, having your phone's navigation projected full screen completely changes life on board.
Renegade compatibility: supported versions
The radio is designed for the Jeep Renegade (BU/BV chassis) throughout its commercial life (2014-2022), covering both the initial series and the facelift.
- Trim levels: Sport, Longitude, Limited, Night Eagle, Trailhawk and special editions.
- Engines: it makes no difference. The 1.6 and 1.0/1.3 T3-T4 petrols, the 1.6 and 2.0 MultiJet diesels and the 4xe versions all share the same console opening.
- Original system: mainly intended to replace the 5" Uconnect, which is the most common variant.
- Drivetrain: valid on 4x2 and 4x4 Active Drive versions.
If your Renegade has the large 8.4" Uconnect, the console layout is different and it is worth checking before buying. Send us a photo of the dashboard and we will verify it with you, with no obligation.
What is the installation like?

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppIt is a plug & play installation: everything connects onto the original harness through an adapter, without cutting or splicing the car's wiring.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal before touching anything.
- Remove the centre trim panel with a plastic prying tool, starting at the bottom and releasing the clips carefully.
- Undo the Uconnect unit screws and pull it towards you to reach the back.
- Disconnect the plugs for power, speakers and aerial from the original unit.
- Connect the adapter harness of the new radio and the CAN Bus module, which keeps the steering wheel controls, the reverse gear signal and the vehicle warnings working.
- Place the GPS antenna somewhere with a good view of the sky and route the rear camera cable if you are fitting one.
- Reconnect the battery and test: sound, steering wheel controls, CarPlay, GPS and camera.
- Fit the screen with its fascia and refit the trim panel.
Taken calmly, the whole job takes a little over an hour. The important part is running the function test before closing up the dashboard.
How much does it cost to install CarPlay in a Jeep Renegade?
At an official dealer, the only way to get CarPlay in a Renegade with the 5" Uconnect is to swap the unit for a higher-spec original Uconnect. Between the unit, the labour and the coding, the bill escalates quickly, and you still end up with a small screen and wired CarPlay.
The Android screen radio is far cheaper, is fitted once and offers more than the official top-spec unit itself: a bigger screen, a wireless connection and always up-to-date navigation. You can find the price and available configurations on the product page.
Frequently asked questions
Still have questions? Talk to an expert
Message us on WhatsApp with your make, model and year and we will tell you exactly which screen fits your car. We reply in minutes.
Talk to an expert on WhatsAppWill I lose the rear camera my Renegade already has?
No. On Renegades fitted with it from the factory, the camera signal is reused and still appears on screen when you select reverse, now on a larger display.
Do the steering wheel controls still work?
Yes. The included CAN Bus module keeps volume, track skip, phone and voice control working from the wheel.
What about the parking sensors and the trip computer?
The sensors keep warning as normal and the instrument cluster is unaffected: it still shows consumption, range and warnings just like before.
Does it look properly integrated in the Renegade dashboard?
Yes. The fascia is specific to this model and follows the lines of the console, so the assembly sits flush and looks like factory equipment.
Can I refit the original radio if I sell the car?
Of course. Since no wiring is cut, you simply unplug the adapter and refit the Uconnect unit. Keep the original radio in its box.
