The Hyundai ix20 was one of the smartest small MPVs ever sold in Spain: a huge interior in barely four metres of length, sliding rear seats, a high driving position and mechanical reliability that keeps thousands of units on the road every day. Its weak point today is neither the engine nor the body: it is the infotainment system. Anyone driving an ix20 spends the day pairing their phone over Bluetooth just to play music, glancing at a phone stuck to a suction mount to navigate, and unable to answer messages by voice.
The good news is that you do not need a new car to get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in your ix20. There is an Android screen radio designed specifically for this model's dashboard opening: it fits in the original radio slot, keeps the steering wheel controls and turns the dashboard into something close to a brand new car.
Does the Hyundai ix20 have CarPlay as standard?
No. The ix20 was sold in Spain between 2010 and 2019 and, depending on the trim level (Klass, Tecno, Go!, Essence…), it left the factory with one of these two systems:
- CD radio with a monochrome display: RDS, USB, AUX and Bluetooth for calls on the better equipped versions. No phone mirroring whatsoever.
- Small touchscreen navigation unit on the top trims: Hyundai's own maps, outdated today, with no live traffic and no way to install apps.
Neither of them supports Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, because the ix20 was designed before those systems existed and Hyundai never released a software update to add them to this model. There is no official aftermarket module for the ix20 either: if you want CarPlay, the way forward is replacing the head unit.

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppThe model-specific Android screen radio for the Hyundai ix20 replaces the original unit and adds everything the car is missing:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto built in: your phone connects by itself when you start the car, no cables.
- Android operating system with the Play Store: it works like a tablet. You can install Spotify, YouTube, Waze, online radio or podcast apps.
- Built-in GPS with maps of Spain and Europe, usable even without mobile data.
- Steering wheel controls are kept thanks to the ix20-specific CAN-Bus: volume, track skip and calls keep working exactly as before.
- Bluetooth and hands-free with a better microphone than the original one.
- Built-in DSP and two USB ports, to get considerably more out of the car's speakers.
- Free reversing camera, which switches on automatically when you select reverse.
- HD touchscreen, far bigger and easier to read than the original display.
Hyundai ix20 compatibility: supported versions
The unit is designed for the ix20 radio opening throughout its whole production run:
- Hyundai ix20 (2010-2015), the pre-facelift series.
- Hyundai ix20 facelift (2015-2019), with the updated headlights and grille.
- All trims and engines: 1.4 and 1.6 petrol, 1.4 CRDi and 1.6 CRDi diesel, manual or automatic gearbox.
- Cars fitted with the CD radio and also cars that left the factory with the navigation unit.
If your ix20 has the original touchscreen navigation, send us a photo of the front of your current radio on WhatsApp before ordering: we confirm compatibility and the right fascia in minutes, free and with no obligation.
What is the installation like?

Message us on WhatsApp with your make, model and year and we will tell you exactly which screen fits your car. We reply in minutes.
Talk to an expert on WhatsAppIt is a plug & play installation: no car wiring needs to be cut or spliced. A car audio shop does it in 30-60 minutes, and plenty of people fit it at home with patience and a set of plastic trim tools.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal before you start.
- Carefully remove the centre console trim using plastic pry tools so you do not mark the dashboard.
- Undo the screws of the original radio and pull it towards you.
- Unplug the ISO connector and the aerial from the original unit.
- Connect the supplied model-specific harness to the new screen and plug it into the ix20's original connector. This is where the CAN-Bus comes in: it is the module that translates the car's signals so the steering wheel controls, the lighting and the warnings keep working.
- If you are fitting the reversing camera, run the video cable along the side of the cabin to the tailgate and connect it to the reverse light.
- Slot the screen into its fascia, screw it in, reconnect the battery and start the car. The first time you will need to pair your phone over Bluetooth and WiFi to activate wireless CarPlay.
A Hyundai dealer cannot help here: there is no official update that adds CarPlay or Android Auto to the ix20, so that route would mean changing car.
The classic car audio shop alternative means buying a branded 2 DIN unit and then adding the ix20 fascia adapter, the ISO cable, the steering wheel control adapter, the aerial and the labour. Every part is billed separately and the total climbs quickly — and most of those units still require a cable for your phone.

Frequently asked questions
Do I lose the ix20 steering wheel controls?
No. The harness includes the Hyundai-specific CAN-Bus module, so volume, track skip, calls and mute keep working from the wheel.
Does CarPlay work without a cable?
Yes. The iPhone connects over WiFi and Bluetooth and links up by itself every time you start the car. You can also use it wired if you prefer to charge at the same time.
My ix20 has the original factory navigation. Do I lose it?
You replace it with something far more up to date: Google Maps, Waze or the built-in GPS with maps of Spain and Europe, live traffic and updated speed camera data.
Do I need mobile data to navigate?
Not necessarily. The screen has its own GPS and offline maps; mobile data only adds live traffic.
Does it also fit the Kia Venga?
The ix20 and the Kia Venga share a platform, but the radio opening and connector can vary by trim. Send us a photo of your current radio and we will confirm it before you buy anything.
