The second-generation Honda Jazz is one of those cars people keep for many years. Does the Honda Jazz Mk2 have CarPlay as standard?

No. The Jazz Mk2 (GE chassis, known as the Honda Fit in Japan) was sold between 2007 and 2014, and none of its European versions left the factory with CarPlay or Android Auto. Honda only started fitting these systems in later generations and other models.

What the Jazz Mk2 did have depended on the trim level:

• CD radio with a monochrome display built into the console, with an aux input and, on some versions, a USB port.
• Bluetooth hands-free on higher trims and later years, limited to calls and at best basic playback.
• Optional Honda navigation on a few units, with maps that are completely out of date today and cannot realistically be renewed.
• Steering wheel audio controls on most versions.

None of that mirrors your phone on the screen, gives you live Google Maps or Waze, plays Spotify or reads your messages out loud.

What is the installation like?

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the centre console trim. On the Jazz Mk2 it is held by clips; use a plastic trim tool so you do not mark the dashboard.
3. Undo the screws holding the original radio and pull it out carefully.
4. Unplug the car's connectors: power, speakers and aerial.
5. Plug in the harness of the new head unit. It is plug & play: the connector is the Jazz's own and the CAN Bus module translates the car's signals, including the steering wheel controls.
6. Place the GPS aerial under the dashboard or at the base of the windscreen, and the microphone near the mirror.
7. Fit the screen with its fascia and refit the trim.
8. Reconnect the battery and check sound, radio, GPS, steering wheel controls and CarPlay pairing before closing everything up.

How much does it cost to install CarPlay in a Honda Jazz Mk2?

Honda offers no official update that adds CarPlay to the Jazz Mk2: the hardware of that era does not support it and there is no factory retrofit. The classic workshop alternative — an aftermarket head unit, fascia, harness and steering wheel interface bought separately, plus labour — adds up quickly and often does not end up looking properly integrated.

How do I know my Jazz is the Mk2 (GE)?
Jazz cars registered between late 2008 and 2014 in Europe are Mk2. Visually, the Mk2 has the long headlight that sweeps up towards the bonnet and a centre console with the monochrome display at the top. In the vehicle documents the type starts with GE.

Do I lose the Magic Seats or any car function?
No. The installation only affects the audio system; seats, climate control, airbags and everything else stay exactly as they are.

Does the Bluetooth hands-free still work?
Yes, but it is now handled by the new head unit with its own microphone, usually with better call quality than the original system.

Do I have to remove the Honda navigation if my car has it?
Yes, the new screen takes its place. In exchange you get up-to-date navigation through CarPlay, Android Auto or whichever map app you prefer.

Does a 9-inch screen block the air vents?
