The X250 platform is probably the most common van on European roads. Under three different badges —Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Jumper— it shares exactly the same dashboard, the same radio aperture and the same wiring. And it shares the same problem too: the factory head unit is, at best, a monochrome display with basic Bluetooth and a USB port that reads MP3 files at a crawl.
If you use the van for work, you feel it every single day. Navigating with your phone stuck to the windscreen, losing a customer's call because the hands-free sounds terrible, or not being able to open a delivery note without pulling over: those are real time losses. An Android head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto completely transforms that cab, and on the X250 the upgrade is especially clean because the factory aperture is huge and takes large screens without touching a single dashboard screw.
Does the Fiat Ducato X250 have CarPlay as standard?
No. No version of the X250 generation left the factory with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. What you will find, depending on trim and year, is one of these three setups:
- Basic radio with a red or amber display: FM/AM radio, a CD player on some trims and little else. This is the most common setup on work versions and ex-fleet vehicles.
- Radio with Bluetooth and a small monochrome screen: it handles calls and audio streaming, but with no navigation and no apps, and pairing drops frequently with current phones.
- Empty aperture with a blanking plate: very common on converted vans, campers and company fleets ordered without an audio system.
Uconnect with CarPlay only reached the Ducato with the next update of the range, and although some workshops offer to "update" the original unit, in practice there is no official route to add CarPlay to an X250 of this generation. Replacing the unit is the only real option.
The solution: an Android head unit for the Ducato, Boxer and Jumper X250

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppThe X250-specific head unit comes with the fascia already built in, so it fits the original aperture and follows the shape of the dashboard. This is not a universal radio forced into place: the buttons stay where they belong and the air vent keeps working as before.
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wired or wireless depending on the model you choose. Google Maps, Waze, Spotify, WhatsApp by voice and calls appear directly on the screen.
- Large touchscreen with tempered glass, angled slightly towards the driver and bright enough for a tall cab that catches a lot of sun.
- Full Android system with the Play Store: you can install your route management app, the digital tachograph, online radio or your transport operator's application.
- Built-in GPS that works without a phone or mobile data, useful on industrial estates and rural areas with poor coverage.
- Reversing camera input —essential on a van with no rear window— and a front camera input on the models that support it.
- Bluetooth 5.0, FM/RDS, multiple USB ports, RCA output for an amplifier, plus an external microphone so you are heard clearly on the move.
- Steering wheel controls retained through the included CAN Bus adapter.
Compatibility with the Ducato, Boxer and Jumper: supported versions
This head unit is designed for the X250 platform across its three brands. Specifically:
- Fiat Ducato III (X250 and pre-facelift X290), 2006 to 2014: panel van, chassis cab, crew van and camper conversion bases.
- Peugeot Boxer II, 2006 to 2014, in every length and roof height.
- Citroën Jumper II, 2006 to 2014, including passenger versions.
- Motorhomes and campers built on the X250 chassis, which is where this unit is fitted most often.
Before ordering, check two things in your cab: the size of the radio aperture (on some entry-level versions it is a 1 DIN slot with a tray underneath, while others are already prepared for 2 DIN) and whether your van has a separate vehicle information display in the centre of the dashboard. Those are the two details that change the mounting kit. If you are not sure, send us a photo of your dashboard and we will confirm it before shipping anything.
What is the installation like?

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppIt is a plug & play installation: there is no need to cut or splice any of the vehicle's wiring. An installer takes between 40 and 70 minutes, and anyone reasonably handy and patient can do it in an afternoon.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. On work vans with plenty of added accessories this matters even more.
- Remove the original radio surround by levering gently with a plastic trim tool along the side clips. On the X250 it is a push fit, with no visible screws.
- Pull out the original unit and disconnect the ISO power and speaker connector along with the aerial.
- Connect the CAN Bus adapter between the van's original connector and the new head unit. This is the part that translates the vehicle's signals: steering wheel controls, ignition, speed and reverse gear.
- Route the GPS aerial along the base of the windscreen and the microphone up to the A-pillar or the roof lining, as close to your head as possible.
- If you are fitting a reversing camera, take the chance to run the video cable along the side of the floor to the rear doors. On a long wheelbase van it is much easier to do this before you seat the head unit.
- Seat the screen, reconnect the battery and start up. Check sound on all four speakers, the steering wheel controls, GPS and phone pairing.
If your van has an amplified aerial, you may need a powered aerial adapter so the radio keeps picking up stations. It is a small, inexpensive part, but without it FM comes through with noise.
How much does it cost to add CarPlay to a Ducato, Boxer or Jumper?
This is where the big difference lies. An official dealer will not install CarPlay on an X250 of this generation: the usual answer is that no update is available, and the alternative they offer is swapping the unit for one from the following range — expensive work that does not always sit well with the older wiring.
With a model-specific head unit like this one, the kit arrives complete —screen, fascia, wiring and CAN Bus adapter included— and you pay once. Fit it yourself and there is no labour; take it to a workshop and it is usually an hour's work. You can see the current price and the available variants on the product page, where you choose screen size and memory according to what you need.

Message us on WhatsApp with your make, model and year and we will tell you exactly which screen fits your car. We reply in minutes.
Talk to an expert on WhatsAppDoes it work in a motorhome built on a Ducato X250 chassis?
Yes, and it is one of the most frequent uses. The chassis cab dashboard is identical. The only thing to bear in mind is that on some conversions the original installer has already run cables behind the radio: take a minute to identify what each one is before fitting.
Will I lose the vehicle information display in the centre of the dashboard?
No. That display is independent of the radio and keeps showing the clock, outside temperature and warnings exactly as before.
Are the steering wheel controls retained?
Yes, through the CAN Bus adapter included in the kit. Volume, track skip and call answer all work as before. On very basic versions with no controls it simply does not apply.
Can I use Android Auto without using mobile data?
Navigation through your phone needs data, but the head unit has its own GPS and supports offline maps, so you can navigate with no phone and no coverage. Local music and FM radio use nothing at all.
Will it stand up to daily use in a work van?
These units are built for exactly that: filtered power supply, passive cooling and clipped connectors. What usually fails in a van is not the head unit but a poorly seated installation that vibrates. Seat it properly and tie the wiring down with cable ties and it will not give you trouble.
