What is the installation like?

It is a plug & play installation: no cutting cables and no universal adapters, because the harness and frame are Q2-specific. A car audio installer will handle it in 30-60 minutes, and if you are reasonably confident removing trim panels you can do it yourself with the included guide.

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before you start. It is the step most people skip and the one that prevents nasty surprises.
2. Remove the centre console trim with a plastic pry tool, without forcing it with metal screwdrivers.
3. Take out the original MMI unit by undoing the mounting screws and unplugging its connectors.
4. Connect the specific harness of the new screen. This is where the CAN Bus module comes in: it translates the car's signals, so the steering wheel controls, parking sensors and factory camera keep working.
5. Fit the screen into its frame and check that it lines up with the console before tightening the screws.

The official route is far less friendly.
