It is one of the questions we get most often by WhatsApp: "should I go for the 9 or the 10 inch?". And it is a good question, because screen size is the first thing you see when you open the door and what decides whether the result looks factory-fitted or bolted on. The short answer: you do not choose the size by taste, your dashboard chooses it. The long answer is this guide.
We work with 7, 8, 9 and 10-inch screens. Below we explain which kind of car each size suits, what really changes as you go bigger and which mistakes to avoid before ordering.
What do we actually mean by "inches"?
The measurement in inches is the screen's diagonal, corner to corner, not its width. That is why two screens one inch apart can look very different depending on their proportions: a 9-inch in landscape format takes up noticeably more width than a 10-inch with a squarer shape.
The important part is that on a model-specific screen the size has already been decided by the frame: that frame is designed to fill the opening in your dashboard and leave the whole thing integrated. There is no need to measure with a tape or calculate anything: you choose your car and the screen comes in the size that fits. The choice of size only comes up when your model allows more than one option.
7 inches: superminis and classic 2-DIN openings

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppThis is the natural size for cars with a traditional double-DIN opening and for superminis with a narrow console: Polo, Ibiza, Corsa, Clio, 206, Panda or Fiesta of older generations, plus many 4x4s and vans with a compact dashboard.
Advantages: it is the size that respects the original look best, it does not cover air vents or controls, and it is still a huge amount of screen compared with the factory radio. If your car is small and you want it to look like nothing has been changed, this is the option.
8 and 9 inches: the sweet spot
These are the best-selling sizes, and for good reason. In hatchbacks and SUVs with a wide centre console — Golf, León, Astra, Mégane, Qashqai, Tucson, 308, C4 — the opening gives enough room for a 9-inch screen without intruding on anything, and the difference against 7 inches really shows in navigation: street names are legible at a glance and the CarPlay buttons are nice and large.
The 8-inch is the alternative when the dashboard has a moulding that stops you going bigger, or when the climate control sits right underneath and you do not want to get that close. Visually they look as integrated as a 7-inch, but with considerably more usable surface.
10 inches: when the dashboard allows it

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppTen inches is tablet format, and it is spectacular in cars with a tall, wide console: large SUVs, saloons, pick-ups, delivery vans and campers. Here the screen becomes the centrepiece of the dashboard and navigation looks almost like that of a brand-new premium car.
Two honest warnings. First: in a car with a sloping dashboard or with central air vents very close by, a 10-inch screen can cover part of them, and then it is better to drop to 9. Second: reflections. More surface means more glass, so if your car has no hood over the screen and you often drive into the sun, consider a screen with good brightness or stick to 9 inches.
We deliberately stop at 10 inches. Screens of 11, 12 or 13 inches exist, but in most European cars they do not integrate: they stick out of the dashboard, cover controls or sit badly, and the result clearly looks like an add-on. We would rather not sell you a fitment problem.
What really changes as you go bigger?
- Navigation legibility: this is the real improvement. More inches means more map visible and bigger labels, exactly what you appreciate at an unfamiliar roundabout.
- Bigger buttons: in CarPlay and Android Auto the icons grow with the screen, so you hit them first time without looking.
- Split screen: on the larger sizes it is comfortable to have map and music at once; on 7 inches it is tight.
- What does NOT change: size does not improve the sound, the power or the responsiveness. That depends on the processor, the RAM and the amplifier, not on the inches. If you want it to run fast, see our guide on how much RAM to choose.

Talk to an expert on WhatsApp- Measuring only the radio opening. What limits you is not the opening, it is the surrounding trim and whatever sits above and below it.
- Choosing the biggest possible screen "just in case". If it covers the climate control or the air vents, you will hate it within a month.
- Comparing inches across different formats. A portrait 9-inch and a landscape 9-inch do not take up the same space: look at the final appearance in the product photo for your model.
- Forgetting the frame. A large universal screen without an adapter frame leaves visible gaps. If you go universal, budget for the universal 2-DIN frame.
Frequently asked questions
Can I fit a bigger screen than the one listed for my car?
Only if that variant exists for your model. When it does, you will see it as an option on the product page. If it does not appear, it is because it does not integrate well in that dashboard.
Does the 10-inch block your view of the road?
No, because it is mounted in the centre console, at radio height, not on top of the dashboard like a phone holder. That is precisely why an integrated screen is safer than a phone on a suction mount.
How do I know which size corresponds to my car?
Look for your model in the catalogue: every page lists its size and its frame. If your car allows several, write to us with the model and year and we will tell you which looks best.
Do the inches affect battery drain?
Very little while driving. If you notice the battery draining with the car parked, the problem is not the size, it is the power supply: we explain it in the guide on why an Android head unit drains the battery.
Is there a price difference between sizes?
Yes, the larger sizes usually cost a bit more. You can compare the current price of each variant on your model's page.

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppIf there is a model-specific screen for your car, find it in the catalogue by brand: size and frame are already sorted.
