• Models with a CD30, CD400 or Navi 600/900 head unit (Astra H, Astra J, Insignia A, Zafira B, Meriva B, Corsa D) left the factory without CarPlay or Android Auto, and it cannot be enabled from the menu.
• The more modern IntelliLink units do offer projection, but almost always over a cable and on a small screen, with no way to install apps.
• The entry-level trims and fleet versions, very common on the used market, carry the simplest unit in the range: a radio with USB and little else.
• In vans such as the Combo or Vivaro, the original unit is usually the most basic of the whole line-up.

If your Opel falls into any of these cases, a model-specific screen is the cleanest way to bring it up to date without touching the dashboard.

What is the installation like on an Opel?

It is a plug & play job using the car's own connectors:

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before removing anything.
2. Release the console trim with a plastic tool, never levering with a screwdriver.
3. Pull out the original unit with the extraction keys and unplug power, speakers, aerial and USB.
4. Connect the model-specific harness to those same connectors, with no cutting or splicing.
5. Plug in the CAN-BUS module, the key part that keeps the steering wheel controls, parking sensors and on-board computer warnings working.
6. Fit the microphone next to the rear-view mirror and, if you are adding a camera, run its cable to the tailgate.
7. Test everything before closing up: audio, wireless CarPlay, GPS, camera and controls.

Between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the model. It comes with a manual and WhatsApp support while you fit it.

How much does it cost to add CarPlay to an Opel?

At the dealer, upgrading the infotainment of an older Opel is rarely viable: the navigation unit, the wiring, the coding and the labour all add up, and you still end up with wired CarPlay and maps you have to pay to update. Building it piece by piece at an installer means adding unit, trim, harness and steering wheel adapter.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose the steering wheel controls or the parking sensors?
No. The Opel-specific CAN-BUS module keeps both, and the warnings still appear on the new screen.

My Opel has factory IntelliLink. Is it worth replacing?
If you want wireless CarPlay, a bigger screen, always up-to-date maps and the ability to install apps, yes. If the original system does the job for you, there is no need to change anything.

Does the same screen fit an Astra J and an Astra K?
No. The opening, the trim and the connector are different, so each generation has its own screen. That is why every product page states the exact year range.

What if my Opel has the climate control built into the radio?
That is exactly the case of the Insignia and the Astra J: the model-specific screens for those cars replicate the climate controls on the trim itself or on the screen.

Will it pass the roadworthiness test?
Yes. It goes in the original slot and does not alter any safety components, so no type approval is required.
