CarPlay Head Unit for Nissan NV200 and Evalia (2009-2021): how to install Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

CarPlay and Android Auto head unit for Nissan NV200 and Evalia (2009-2021)

The Nissan NV200 is one of those vans that is everywhere without you noticing: urban deliveries, installers, municipal services and, in its passenger version — the Evalia — large families after seven seats on a budget. It was built in Barcelona and there is a huge number of them in Spain, with many still working every single day.

The cab is practical and simple, and that is where the problem lies too: the factory equipment stayed basic. Anyone who spends the day inside ends up with the phone clipped to an air vent, switching between navigation, calls and the delivery list. There is a far more comfortable solution: a model-specific head unit for the NV200 that fits the original opening and brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Does the Nissan NV200 have CarPlay as standard?

No. Neither the NV200 panel van nor the Evalia offered Apple CarPlay or Android Auto from the factory. It is a vehicle built to last and to work, with multimedia equipment frozen at whatever was normal when it was designed.

Depending on version and year, it could have:

  • Factory radio-CD with a monochrome segment display in the console opening.
  • Aux input and USB for playing MP3s from a memory stick.
  • Bluetooth calling only on the better-equipped trims.
  • Steering wheel audio controls on some units, which can be kept after the upgrade.
  • A portable sat nav on a suction cup, standard practice then and unnecessary now.

None of those options shows your phone's apps on screen or integrates a reversing camera, which in a van with no rear window is about as useful as the navigation itself.

The model-specific head unit for this chassis replaces the original unit and brings:

  • HD touchscreen fitted into the console opening, with a made-to-measure fascia: no brackets, no screens stuck on top of the dashboard.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: the phone connects on its own when you start up, with nothing to plug in at every stop.
  • Built-in GPS navigation plus Google Maps and Waze for the delivery round.
  • Bluetooth hands-free calling and audio streaming.
  • FM radio and playback over USB, Bluetooth and Spotify, with several USB ports to charge the phone.
  • Steering wheel controls kept through the included CAN Bus module.
  • Reversing camera included, which is key for manoeuvring in town and at loading bays.
  • Plug & play installation, with a model-specific harness and without cutting any of the van's wiring.

Nissan NV200 and Evalia compatibility: supported versions

The same kit fits both body styles of the M20 chassis:

  • Nissan NV200 panel van — from 2009 to 2021, in its various trims.
  • Nissan Evalia — the five and seven seat combi version, with the same cab.
  • Pre-facelift and post-facelift vans, checking the outline of the opening.
  • 1.5 dCi and 1.6 petrol engines; the electric e-NV200 has a different console layout, so it is worth checking with us first.
  • Vans with the factory radio and vans that already have an aftermarket unit.

Before buying, compare the outline of your centre console and the radio opening with the photos on the product page: it is the most reliable check, because the trim surround varies between trims and between van and combi.

The NV200 cab is one of the easiest to work on: few trim panels and everything within reach.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait a couple of minutes.
  2. Release the centre console trim with a plastic pry tool, starting at the bottom.
  3. Undo the screws holding the original radio and slide it out.
  4. Unplug the ISO connector for power and speakers, and the aerial lead.
  5. Plug in the new screen's harness: it fits the same connectors, and the CAN Bus module keeps the steering wheel controls and the ignition and illumination signals working.
  6. Route the camera cable to the rear doors or tailgate along the side of the floor, using the factory grommets.
  7. Place the GPS aerial at the base of the windscreen and the microphone near the rear-view mirror.
  8. Fit the screen, refit the trim and reconnect the battery to test sound, controls, CarPlay, GPS and camera before closing everything up.

If FM sounds weaker afterwards, check whether your van has an amplified aerial: a powered aerial adaptor solves it.

How much does it cost to install CarPlay in a Nissan NV200?

Nissan does not offer an official CarPlay retrofit for the NV200 or the Evalia, so the honest comparison is between fitting a generic head unit at an audio shop — with the fascia adaptor, harness, control interface and camera all bought separately, plus labour — or installing a kit already prepared for this chassis.

The model-specific kit saves the expensive part, the adaptation, and includes the reversing camera without having to source it separately. If you fit it yourself, the van is off the road for a single morning and the saving is bigger. Memory options and up-to-date prices are on the product page.

Does the same kit fit the NV200 van and the Evalia?
Yes. They share the cab, console and connectors, so the kit fits both in the same way.

Do the steering wheel controls still work?
Yes, if your vehicle has them. The included CAN Bus module keeps them and they are set up from the head unit's menu.

Does it also fit the electric e-NV200?
The electric version has a different console layout and different signals, so it is best to check with us first, giving the year and the trim.

Is a reversing camera worth it on a closed panel van?
Very much so. With no rear window, the camera shows the whole blind spot when reversing and prevents knocks during loading manoeuvres.

Does CarPlay work without a cable?
Yes. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wireless: you pair the phone once and after that it connects on its own when you start up.
