The second-generation Toyota Yaris (XP90, 2005-2012) is one of the best-selling superminis of recent decades in Europe, and for good reason: it fits into any gap, uses very little fuel and its mechanicals are practically indestructible. It is the city car people inherit, share within the family and still drive every day ten or fifteen years after buying it.
The only thing that has aged is the dashboard. The original radio in the Yaris XP90, with its small monochrome display in the centre and its buttons, has no navigation, cannot play music from your phone and, of course, has no Apple CarPlay and no Android Auto. In a car used mostly around town, you notice that every single day: a phone holder stuck to the windscreen, cables in the way and hunting for parking on a six-inch screen.
Does the Toyota Yaris have CarPlay as standard?
No. No version of the Yaris XP90 left the factory with CarPlay or Android Auto: those technologies arrived much later. Depending on the trim, your car may have:
- Basic radio-CD using the central digital display in the dashboard, without Bluetooth.
- Radio with Bluetooth for calls, on higher trims or fitted by the dealer.
- Original Toyota navigation with a small screen and DVD or card maps, today with no updates available.
- Audio pre-wiring: on entry versions, a simple single-DIN slot.
None of those units can be updated by software to add CarPlay: it is a hardware limitation. The only real solution is to replace the original unit with an Android screen made for the Yaris slot.
The solution: Android radio for the Toyota Yaris

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppOur screen for the Yaris XP90 is an Android touch unit with a fascia specific to this dashboard. It goes into the original radio slot and leaves the interior unrecognisable:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay: the iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, with no cable to pull out.
- Wireless Android Auto with Google Maps, Waze, Spotify or YouTube Music.
- High-resolution IPS touchscreen, readable even in full sunlight.
- Bluetooth 5.0 with external microphone: proper hands-free in a car that rarely had it.
- Built-in GPS with offline navigation, useful in underground car parks and tunnels.
- Reversing camera input, switching automatically when you select reverse: highly recommended for parallel parking.
- FM/RDS radio, USB, WiFi and apps you can install from Google Play.
- Equaliser and amplifier output, to get more out of the original speakers.
- Compatible with the steering wheel controls via the decoder included, on the versions that have them.
It comes in three configurations: 1 GB + 16 GB for simple use, 2 GB + 32 GB (our best seller, for its balance of price and smoothness) and 4 GB + 64 GB for maximum performance.
Compatibility with the Toyota Yaris: supported versions
This unit is designed for the second-generation Yaris (XP90), built between 2005 and 2012:
- Yaris 3 and 5 door, original series 2005-2008 and facelift 2009-2012.
- 1.0 VVT-i, 1.3 VVT-i, 1.33 Dual VVT-i and 1.4 D-4D engines, with manual, automatic or MultiMode transmission.
- Trims with the basic radio, with the Bluetooth radio or with the original navigation.
- Also on cars with the central digital display characteristic of this generation.
Note: for the Yaris XP130 (2012-2017) and the XP150 (2015 onwards) we have different references, because the centre console changes completely. If you are not sure which generation is yours, send us a photo of the dashboard on WhatsApp and we will confirm it before you buy.

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppIt is a plug & play installation: it uses the car's original connectors, with no cutting or splicing.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal before you start.
- Remove the centre console trim: it is held by push clips.
- Undo the screws on the original radio and pull it out of the slot.
- Unplug the factory connector and the aerial lead.
- Connect the specific harness with CAN Bus decoder included: this is what makes the screen switch on and off with the ignition and keeps the steering wheel controls.
- Run the external microphone to the A-pillar or the mirror and the GPS aerial to the base of the windscreen.
- Fit the screen with its fascia, screw it in, refit the trim and reconnect the battery.
- Start up, pair your phone over Bluetooth and let CarPlay or Android Auto set themselves up.
At PantallasPremium the price is clear:
- 2 GB + 32 GB version, the one we recommend for everyday use.
- Up to for the 4 GB + 64 GB version, the fastest one.
It includes the screen, the Yaris-specific fascia, the wiring with CAN Bus decoder, the external microphone and the GPS aerial, plus 3 years of warranty and shipping. For a city car you are going to keep for many more years, it is one of the upgrades you notice most for the least money.
Frequently asked questions
My Yaris has the instrument cluster in the centre. Is it affected?
No. The central dashboard display is independent from the audio unit and keeps working exactly as before: speed, odometer, consumption and warnings do not change.
Do I keep the steering wheel controls?
Yes, on the versions that have them from the factory. The CAN Bus decoder included keeps volume, track change and phone.
Is it worth it on a small supermini?
That is exactly where you get the most out of it: navigation with real-time traffic, music and hands-free calling in a car used daily around town. It also adds value if you ever sell it.
Can I add a reversing camera?
Yes. The screen has a video input and switches over by itself when you select reverse. It is the most requested add-on alongside the screen.
Does CarPlay work without a cable?
Yes, both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work wirelessly. You can also use USB if you prefer your phone to charge while you drive.
