The Toyota Auris E180 (2013-2016) and its sibling the Corolla of those same years are two of the best-selling compacts in Europe, especially in hybrid form: this was the car that brought Prius technology to an ordinary compact, with ridiculously low urban consumption and bulletproof reliability. Many are still working today as family cars, company cars or private-hire vehicles.
What has been left behind is the screen. The Toyota Touch 2 system fitted as standard was fine at the time, but today it feels slow, with paid maps nobody updates any more and, above all, no Apple CarPlay and no Android Auto. Toyota only added those features with the next generation of the Corolla.
Do the Toyota Auris and Corolla have CarPlay as standard?
No. No Auris E180 or Corolla of those years left the factory with CarPlay or Android Auto. Depending on the trim, your car will have:
- Basic radio with monochrome display: on entry trims, with CD, USB and Bluetooth for calls.
- Toyota Touch 2: 6.1" touchscreen, Bluetooth, USB and basic apps, without navigation.
- Toyota Touch 2 & Go: the above plus built-in navigation and connected services, with maps that are now out of date.
None of those units can be updated to CarPlay: it is a hardware limitation. Toyota's retrofit programme did not cover this generation either. The only real route is to replace the unit with a dedicated Android screen.

If your car has the original reversing camera or parking sensors, they are kept. For the Auris E150 (2007-2012) and the previous Corolla we have a different reference, because the dashboard slot changes.

- Disconnect the negative terminal of the 12 V battery.
- Remove the centre dashboard trim, held by push clips.
- Undo the screws on the Touch 2 unit and pull it out carefully.
- Unplug the factory connectors, the aerial and, if fitted, the rear camera.
- Connect the harness with CAN Bus decoder included: it keeps the steering wheel controls and correct switching on with the ignition.
- Run the external microphone to the A-pillar and the GPS aerial to the base of the windscreen.
- Fit the new screen with its fascia, screw it in and reconnect the battery.
- Switch on, pair your phone over Bluetooth and CarPlay or Android Auto set themselves up.

Frequently asked questions
Does it work in the Auris Hybrid and Corolla Hybrid?
Yes. The installation is identical to the petrol or diesel versions and the hybrid system is not affected in any way.
Will I still see the hybrid energy flow and consumption?
The main data in the instrument cluster and trip computer stays. What is replaced is the infotainment unit, not the cluster. The energy-flow screen shown on the Touch 2 does disappear, but the consumption summary in the cluster is still there.
Will I lose the original reversing camera?
No. It plugs into the video input of the new screen and appears by itself when you select reverse, with better image quality.
Do I keep the steering wheel controls?
Yes. The CAN Bus decoder included keeps volume, track change, phone and voice control.
Does CarPlay work without a cable?
Yes, both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work wirelessly. You can also connect the phone by USB if you prefer it to charge.
