Does the Skoda Yeti have CarPlay as standard?

No. No version of the Yeti Mk1 (5L chassis) left the factory with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Skoda's SmartLink system arrived later in the range, with the Karoq that replaced the Yeti.

Depending on trim and year, your Yeti may have:

• Swing: the entry-level radio, with a monochrome or very small touchscreen, radio and basic Bluetooth.
• Bolero: a slightly larger colour screen, CD player, USB and SD, without navigation.
• Amundsen: adds built-in navigation with SD card maps, whose official updates are expensive and increasingly hard to justify.

In every case the phone is limited to playing sound over Bluetooth. No Google Maps on screen, no Waze, no Spotify with cover art, no voice-dictated messages.

Yeti compatibility: supported versions

This radio is designed for the Skoda Yeti Mk1 (5L chassis) across its full commercial life (2009-2017), covering both the original round-headlight series and the facelift with the revised front end, as well as the Outdoor and Monte Carlo variants.

• Trim levels: Active, Ambition, Style, Outdoor, Monte Carlo and special editions.
• Engines: it makes no difference. The 1.6 and 2.0 TDI and the 1.2 and 1.4 TSI petrols share the same console.
• Original system: valid for cars with Swing, with Bolero and with Amundsen.

What is the installation like?

It is a plug & play installation: it connects to the original harness through an adapter, without cutting wires or modifying anything on the car.

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait a few minutes.
2. Remove the original radio. Swing and Bolero units use extraction keys; on some versions the trim panel has to be removed first with a plastic tool.
3. Disconnect the back: the Quadlock power and speaker connector, and the aerial lead.
4. Connect the adapter harness of the new radio onto the car's Quadlock and plug in the CAN Bus module, which keeps the steering wheel controls and the ignition signal working.
5. Check the aerial: if your Yeti has a powered antenna, use the matching adapter so that radio reception is correct.
6. Place the GPS antenna under the dashboard or at the base of the windscreen, with a clear view of the sky.
7. Route the rear camera cable to the tailgate if you are fitting one.
8. Reconnect the battery and test everything before closing up: sound, steering wheel controls, FM radio, CarPlay, GPS and camera. Then fit the screen and refit the trim panel.

How much does it cost to install CarPlay in a Skoda Yeti?

There is no official solution: Skoda offers no update that adds CarPlay or Android Auto to a Yeti, because the model predates SmartLink. The most a dealer can do is update the Amundsen maps, an expense that repeats over time and doesn't solve what matters: you would still be unable to use your phone on screen.

Will I lose the Yeti steering wheel controls?
No. The included CAN Bus module keeps them working: volume, tracks, phone and voice control still operate from the wheel.

I have the Amundsen navigation, is it worth replacing?
Yes. Navigation from your phone via CarPlay or Android Auto is faster, has live traffic and never again requires buying map updates.

Does the trip computer in the instrument cluster still work?
Yes. The instrument cluster is independent of the radio and keeps showing consumption, range and warnings as normal.

What if my Yeti has parking sensors?
The sensors keep their acoustic warnings just as before. If you also add a rear camera, you will get the image on screen when you select reverse.

Will the FM radio still pick up stations properly?
Yes, as long as the correct aerial adapter is used. It is the detail most often overlooked on Volkswagen Group cars with a powered antenna, and it is exactly what makes the difference in reception.
