CarPlay Screen for Nissan: compatibility and installation guide, model by model

Which Nissan models have CarPlay as standard?

Phone projection reached the brand late and in stages:

• The Qashqai J10 and X-Trail T31, and generally anything older than the last decade, came with a CD radio or the original NissanConnect: no CarPlay or Android Auto and no way to enable it.
• The Qashqai J11 and X-Trail T32 have NissanConnect with a touchscreen, but projection only appears on the most recent units and always over a cable.
• The entry-level trims (Visia and equivalents), very common on the used market, carry the simplest radio in the range, sometimes without a touchscreen at all.
• On small cars and commercial models such as the Micra, the early Juke or the Navara, the original unit is basic and its maps, when it has them, are out of date.

If your Nissan falls into any of these cases, a model-specific screen is the cleanest way to bring it up to date.

The solution: a model-specific Android screen for Nissan

What is the installation like on a Nissan?

It is a plug & play job using the car's own connectors:

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before removing anything.
2. Release the console trim with a plastic tool, starting from the bottom edge.
3. Pull out the original unit and unplug power, speakers, aerial, USB and the camera if there is one.
4. Connect the model-specific harness to those same connectors, with no cutting or splicing.
5. Plug in the CAN-BUS module, the key part that keeps the steering wheel controls, parking sensors and warnings working.
6. Reconnect the 360º camera if your model has one, using the dedicated connector on the harness.
7. Test everything before closing up: audio, wireless CarPlay, GPS, cameras and controls.

Between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the model. It comes with a manual and WhatsApp support while you fit it.

How much does it cost to add CarPlay to a Nissan?

At the dealer, upgrading the NissanConnect of an older car is rarely viable: the navigation unit, the wiring, the coding and the labour all add up, and you still end up with wired CarPlay and maps you have to pay to update. Building it piece by piece at an installer means adding unit, trim, harness and steering wheel adapter.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose the steering wheel controls or the parking sensors?
No. The Nissan-specific CAN-BUS module keeps both, with their warnings on the new screen.

My Qashqai has a 360º camera. Do I keep it?
Yes, as long as you choose the screen version prepared for it. On the Qashqai and X-Trail pages it is marked as such, because the connector and the image processing are different.

Does the same screen fit a Qashqai J10 and a J11?
No. The opening, the trim and the connector are different, so each generation has its own. That is why every product page states the exact year range.

What if my Nissan has the climate control built into the console?
The model-specific screens respect that area: the model's own trim is fitted and the climate controls remain accessible.

Will it pass the roadworthiness test?
Yes. It goes in the original slot and does not alter any safety components, so no type approval is required.
