What is the installation like on a Honda?

It is a plug & play job on the car's own connectors:

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before taking anything apart.
2. Release the console trim with a plastic tool. On the Civic with the stepped dashboard, take your time: the fascia is a large, visible part.
3. Remove the original unit by undoing the screws and unplug power, speakers, aerial and USB.
4. Connect the specific harness to those same connectors, with no cutting or splicing.
5. Plug in the CAN-BUS module, the part that keeps the steering wheel controls, the sensors and the warnings on the new screen.
6. Fit the microphone next to the mirror and, if you are adding a camera, run the cable to the tailgate along the roof trim.
7. Test everything before closing up: audio, wireless CarPlay, GPS, camera and controls.

How much does it cost to add CarPlay to a Honda?

At an official service centre, for a Civic or a CR-V of these generations the answer is usually that the system does not support CarPlay: it is not updated, it is replaced.
