• Entry-level trims (the classic Access and Essential): in many cases there is not even a screen. The solution is a radio with Bluetooth and a phone holder. No CarPlay or Android Auto, and no official way to add them.
• Sandero II, Logan II, Dokker and Lodgy with Media Nav: a small touchscreen with its own navigation, radio and hands-free. Phone mirroring, where it existed, was the MirrorLink type that virtually no phone supports today.
• Second-generation Duster and Sandero III: here you do find versions with phone mirroring on higher trims, but with small screens, limited resolution and systems that fall short of what an Android unit offers today.

And the key point: on a Dacia that left the factory without CarPlay, it cannot be activated through software. The original radio does not have the hardware, so neither the dealer nor a diagnostic machine can solve it. The only real solution is to replace the unit.

What is the installation like on a Dacia?

Dacia dashboards are straightforward, with clip-on trims and easily accessible radio screws. Fitting is plug & play, with no cutting or splicing:

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before touching anything.
2. Remove the centre console trim with a plastic pry tool; it is clipped in place.
3. Undo the screws on the original radio and pull it out with its connectors.
4. Plug the specific harness into the factory connector. The CAN-Bus is the key part: it translates the car's signals so the satellite steering wheel stalk, the parking sensors and the camera keep working if the car has them.
5. If you are adding a rear camera, run the video cable along the side up to the tailgate.
6. Fit the screen with its fascia, screw it in, reconnect the battery and start the car.
7. Pair your phone over Bluetooth the first time: after that CarPlay and Android Auto connect on their own.

How much does it cost to add CarPlay to a Dacia?

Through official channels the answer is usually no: on cars that left the factory without connectivity the brand does not sell a system update, and swapping the original unit for a higher-spec one means a new part, coding and labour. The classic workshop alternative —a universal double DIN radio— means buying the fascia, the aerial adapter and the steering control adapter separately, adds fitting time and hardly ever looks like factory equipment.

Frequently asked questions about CarPlay in a Dacia

Can CarPlay be activated on a Dacia without changing the radio?

No. If your car left the factory without CarPlay, the original radio does not have the necessary hardware. There is no activation via diagnostics: the unit has to be replaced with a model-specific screen.

My Sandero has no screen, just a phone holder. Is there a solution?

Yes, and it is one of the cases where the change is most noticeable. The console opening is ready for a screen, so the specific unit fits right in and you go from having nothing to having CarPlay, Android Auto and navigation.

Do I keep the satellite steering wheel stalk?

Yes. The harness includes the Renault-Dacia group CAN-Bus, which retains the stalk behind the wheel, the parking sensors and the original camera if your car has one.

What is the difference between the Sandero II screen and the Lodgy one?
