If your car has a double-height radio slot, you're in luck: a double DIN radio with CarPlay and Android Auto is one of the simplest ways to modernise your dashboard. Touchscreen, navigation, music streaming and hands-free calling, while keeping the steering wheel controls. But before buying, it's worth being clear on three things: what exactly the double DIN format is, whether your car has it and what you need for a clean, integrated fit.
What is a double DIN radio?
DIN is a size standard for dashboard radio slots. There are two formats:
- Single DIN: the narrow rectangular slot of classic radios.
- Double DIN (2 DIN): twice as tall, with a standard front size of 180 x 100 mm. It's the format of most universal touchscreens.
If your radio slot has that size or can be adapted with a frame, you can fit a universal double DIN radio. If your car has a very integrated dashboard design, a screen specific to your model is the better choice.

Talk to an expert on WhatsApp- Measure the front of your current radio. If it's around 180 x 100 mm, it's double DIN.
- If it's single DIN, there's sometimes a storage tray underneath which, once removed, leaves room for double DIN with the right frame.
- If the original radio has a special shape (integrated with the climate control or with a curved design), a universal frame won't look right: look for the specific screen for your model.
If in doubt, send us a photo of your dashboard via WhatsApp and we'll tell you which option fits. Our guide Can I add CarPlay to my car? can also help.
The solution: universal radio with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto
The Wireless CarPlay + Android Auto Radio Screen is our universal radio in double DIN format. According to its product page, it includes:
- Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, with or without a cable.
- Keeps the original steering wheel controls: volume, calls and track change.
- Android system with Play Store: apps, YouTube and WiFi.
- Built-in GPS with maps of Spain and Europe.
- HD touchscreen, two USB ports and Bluetooth hands-free.
- Built-in DSP to improve the sound.
- Two memory configurations: 2 GB RAM + 32 GB or 4 GB RAM + 64 GB.
- Option of radio only or radio + fitting frame + wiring.
How much RAM to choose? For CarPlay, Android Auto and navigation, the 2 GB version works well; if you're going to use many Android apps at once, the 4 GB one feels smoother. We explain it in detail in 1GB, 2GB or 4GB of RAM?

Talk to an expert on WhatsAppA double DIN radio fits standard slots, but almost all cars need a fitting frame so the front sits flush with the dashboard with no gaps. The Universal Double DIN Frame lets you fit any standard double DIN radio (180 x 100 mm), is made of ABS plastic and is installed without modifying the dashboard.
If there's a specific frame available for your car, the finish will be even better. The "Radio + fitting frame + wiring" option of the universal radio includes the parts needed for installation.
What is the installation like?
- Remove the original radio with plastic tools or the removal keys, depending on the car.
- Disconnect the radio connector and the antenna.
- Connect the new radio's wiring to the car's. With the right wiring for your model it's plug & play, without cutting any wires.
- Connect the CAN Bus (if your car needs it) so the steering wheel controls and vehicle information work.
- Fit the frame and slide the radio into the slot.
- Connect the antenna, microphone and GPS, and the reversing camera if you have one.
- Test everything before closing up: CarPlay, Android Auto, radio, steering wheel controls and reverse gear.
Any car audio installer can fit it in 30-60 minutes, and if you're a bit handy you can do it yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Does a double DIN radio pass the vehicle inspection (ITV)?
We explain it in detail in Do Android CarPlay screens pass the ITV?
Will I lose the steering wheel controls?
No. The universal radio keeps the original steering wheel controls, by connecting the right wiring and CAN Bus for your car.
Can I install a double DIN radio in a single DIN slot?
Only if there's space below or above (for example, a storage tray) and a suitable frame. If not, there are universal single DIN radios with a screen.
What do I need besides the radio?
Usually a fitting frame, wiring for your model and, if the car uses one, an antenna adapter. That's why we offer the radio with frame and wiring option.
Does it work with iPhone and Android?
Yes, it supports CarPlay for iPhone and Android Auto for Android, by cable or wirelessly.
