CarPlay and Android Auto in Seat Ibiza: everything you need to know

The answer varies depending on the car's generation. The Seat Ibiza has gone through several generations with very different infotainment systems, and the solution changes depending on which one you have. In this article, we'll explain everything clearly and directly.

Which generation of Seat Ibiza do you have?

Before talking about solutions, it's important to identify your generation:

• Seat Ibiza 6J (2008-2017): The most common in Spain. Comes with a simple 1 DIN or 2 DIN radio, without a touchscreen, without connectivity. The vast majority of Ibizas of this generation don't even have Bluetooth for music.
• Seat Ibiza 6F / KJ (2017-2023): Comes with an 8-inch Composition Touch screen as standard equipment. It also does not include CarPlay or Android Auto as standard in the basic versions.

Depending on which one you have, the optimal solution is different, although in both cases it is perfectly possible to have CarPlay and Android Auto working.

Solution for the Seat Ibiza 6J (2008-2017)

For models with a conventional radio, the solution is to install a specific double-DIN Android radio for the Seat Ibiza 6J. These units are designed to fit exactly into the dashboard slot of the Ibiza 6J, with the connection harness already included.

The latest generation Ibizas already have a touchscreen as standard, but in many cases without CarPlay or Android Auto. Here are two options:

Option 1: Replace the original screen with an Android radio
The same as in the 6J, but adapted to the new dashboard. You get wireless CarPlay, Android Auto, and all the functionalities of a complete multimedia system.

Option 2: Install a CarPlay interface
If you prefer to maintain the original look of the Ibiza 6F dashboard, there is an option to add a CarPlay module that connects to the original screen. This solution is more expensive and has limitations, so we generally recommend a complete replacement.

Is the installation complicated?

No. For both the Ibiza 6J and 6F, the process is:

1. Remove the original radio/screen with plastic tools (without scratching the dashboard).
2. Connect the new radio's harness to the original Seat Ibiza connector.
3. Secure the new unit in the dashboard slot.
4. Set the language, CarPlay, and verify that the steering wheel controls respond.

The vast majority of users prefer the Android system.

Does it affect the MOT?
No. Changing a car radio is a reversible modification that does not affect the MOT.

Does it work with Apple CarPlay on iPhone and with cables?
